Location: Spicer, MN
Entity Name: Duininck Minnesota and South Dakota

Duininck Family of Companies is a nearly 100-year-old family-owned and operated enterprise that involves a diverse portfolio of businesses in Water Management, Construction and Materials, and Real Estate. We operate across multiple companies including Duininck Golf, Duininck Concrete, and our Heavy Civil Road Construction sectors in both Minnesota and Texas.

We are seeking a dedicated, proactive and detail-oriented Safety Manager to lead our workplace safety initiatives for our heavy civil road construction and commercial crews. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs that ensure a safe working environment and compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations. Moreover, in this highly influential role, we are seeking a candidate with passion and strong interpersonal skills to create a world-class safety culture.

This full-time position has seasonal travel throughout Central and Western Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Eastern Dakotas. We have approximately 300 employees, including about 200 seasonal workers, who work on or support activities at our job sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion and maintain best-in-class safety practices and standards, with a proactive mindset that anticipates potential issues before they arise.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed safety into day-to-day operations and project planning, helping to foster and drive a strong safety-first culture.
  • Ensure full compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations, while also supporting Fleet Safety and DOT requirements as needed.
  • Facilitate dynamic, hands-on safety training sessions focused on compliance, safe work practices, equipment use, and hazard awareness. Partner with HR to ensure training records are accurate and up to date.
  • Conduct routine job site inspections to proactively identify potential hazards, evaluate safety practices and behaviors, and work side-by-side with crews to build knowledge and confidence in safe operations. Your presence should add value and reflect true partnership.
  • Lead thorough and thoughtful investigations of workplace incidents, identifying root causes and implementing practical, preventive solutions. A curious and open mindset is key to continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build effective, collaborative teams are essential.
  • Extensive safety experience required, ideally within the road construction industry. Solid knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations is a must; familiarity with DOT and fleet safety is a plus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional, Construction Health and Safety Technician, or similar are also a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed, with a seasonal focus depending on project demands.

You will have the chance to make a significant impact on our operations and contribute to the overall success and sustainability of our business. Come, be part of building something different.

Candidates must be prepared for exposure to dirt, dust, uneven terrain, and a range of outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and humidity. The role involves regular outdoor activity, including walking long distances and traversing uneven surfaces across current and prospective project sites.
